At the beach,
I was a child then,
I remember the sounds of waves crashing
and a large bird eating something dead on the sand.
Growing older,
the sounds of waves
became the sounds of trains
and everything in me
felt dead in the sand.
But now I’m even older,
and looking back,
I was always the vulture.
