From the Desk of William Pauley III
Man, I’ve had an insane week. It’s honestly a wonder I accomplished anything at all. Alls fine and well. No worries. Just tired. Reeeaallllyyyy tired.
Oh, and I have family coming in this weekend… a book event… my son has a school dance… and we’re headed to Nashville on Monday…
So much to do.
But that’s not to say this week’s newsletter will suffer because of it, because it won’t. Every time life tries to put me through the wringer, I don’t let it get me down. I go twice as hard as I ever did before. Can’t stop the momentum. Can’t ever stop.
What I’m trying to say is that this week’s newsletter is fucking awesome. You’re getting all the stuff you normally get, as well as the first issue of MELT Magazine —AND— a sneak preview of the Twelve Residents Dreaming audiobook!
And that’s not all! To reward you for taking the time to read through this insanity every week, I’m sneaking a free PDF download of Twelve Residents Dreaming somewhere inside this newsletter. It’s hiding in here somewhere. Good luck finding it!
Enjoy this week’s newsletter!

Last Week / This Week
“Choose-Your-Own-Mindfuck: A Night in the Eighth Block Tower” is live! Thanks to everyone who’s been playing along so far! It’s never too late to join in on the fun, click here to get started. What is this madness?? This interactive adventure allows the unique opportunity to explore one of the weirdest, most disturbing (sentient?) buildings in all of fiction, but be careful not to become a permanent resident in the process! See how it all works here, then start reading!
BOOK EVENT: Today I’ll be at the Madison Book Fair in Richmond, KY from 10am to 2pm. Come out and say hi! NOTE: Many more authors will be there, not just the ones shown above. For more information, click here.
ALL SUBSCRIBERS: On this week’s episode of Storytime!, Connor Brannigan will be reading the final story of The Ballad of Old Joe Booth. It’s weird and creepy—a perfect tale for this cool, dark season. Be sure to check out “Winter” when it drops on Monday!
PAID SUBSCRIBERS: The first issue of MELT Magazine is here! This project is a collaboration between myself and Tom Stripper and will be published quarterly (an issue for every season of the year). There will be two different versions of this zine available to download: a PDF that can be read on just about any electronic device you have & a print-at-home version that will only require a single piece of paper to print. By following the folding instructions, that one sheet of paper will turn into a fully-illustrated magazine, complete with pages you can flip through. Mind-blown!
For more information & to download your copy of the magazine, click here. Not a paid subscriber? Upgrade now so you can download your issue today!
VIP SUBSCRIBERS: You’ve been reading early drafts of “Choose Your Own Mindfuck: An Night in Eighth Block Tower” chapters, including several that belong in alternate storylines (not the storyline subscribers have chosen to follow)! I’ve been enjoying the nice Fall weather (my favorite time of year), so I’ve been handwriting this one. Hopefully you all can read that chicken scratch! A Special Sneak Preview of the
TWELVE RESIDENTS DREAMING Audiobook
Narrated by Connor Brannigan
As I type this, Connor Brannigan is hard at work in his New York studio recording the Twelve Residents Dreaming audiobook. If you’ve ever listened to my audiobooks (or the Storytime! posts here on Substack), you’ll know that Connor truly is the best narrator in the business. His performances add a whole new dimension to my work, allowing readers to become fully immersed in these weird dreamscapes. He has a unique voice for every character and his delivery will send a chill down your spine at all the right moments. A true one man show!
The other day, he sent me a few files, giving me a sneak preview of his progress. As a way of showing my gratitude to you, my paid subscribers, I thought I’d share one of those stories with you today!
So, here it is, the first dream of Twelve Residents Dreaming, a story called “Heirs of the Abyss”:
