Issue XLVI
Concerning cheap thrills, a change of scenery, & hallucinations of a deranged mind...
From the Desk of William Pauley III
I’m going to do something very different today.
If you’ve been following DOOM FICTION for a while now, you know that every full moon we have a huge book sale—50% off all book orders, free stickers, & hand drawn bookmarks—the works! Don’t worry, that isn’t going anywhere. In fact, you can click here to get started on your order now (enter promo code HITME at checkout for discount). This sale is for 24 hours only! Many titles sell out quick, so act fast!
Anyway, onto the different…
So, I’ve been thinking. As my Substack currently stands, I provide 52 stories a year for free subscribers, available in both text and audio formats. I also put out 52 issues of my newsletter, which contains a good amount of free content. This has helped tremendously in reaching out to readers that may never have come across my fiction otherwise. Every story I post is streamed thousands of times within just a few days. My mind is always blown when I look at the numbers. I’m so grateful to those of you who keep returning week after week, especially those who comment and/or share with friends. I can’t thank you all enough for giving me your time. In a world where everybody’s talking at the same time, you stopped and listened to me. Thank you for listening!
Now comes the hard part.
With growth, comes change.
In all the research I’ve done in trying to use this platform to its greatest potential, everything I’ve read suggests it’s time for a change. You all know me by now. You know what’s unique about DOOM FICTION and what sets it apart from other Substack accounts.
It’s time I made my paid subscribers the priority. So, with that said, the Monday Storytime posts will still happen weekly, but only for paid subscribers. It will only be available to free subscribers once a month from here on out. This is an effort to reward the kind folks who are already generously supporting DOOM FICTION.
With every paid subscriber, I get an inch closer to living my dream—the art life—a life where I can dedicate all my free time to writing and other forms of art, but without causing my family to suffer because of it. Thank you all so much! You’re incredible. I truly can’t thank you enough.
Not a paid subscriber? No worries! I have great news for you:
Right now—FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS ONLY—you can become a paid subscriber for only $25 a year! That’s 50% off! It breaks down to a little over $2 a month! That’s as low as it will ever be.
Click here to get in on this deal before it’s gone! NOTE: This promo is only valid for the annual paid subscription, not the VIP or monthly tier.
If you choose to remain a free subscriber (glad to have you!), then you can expect to continue receiving the weekly newsletter as well as one Storytime post a month. That’s 12 free stories (in both text and audio formats) a year! Still a great deal, if you ask me!
Paid subscribers will have instant access to the entire DOOM FICTION library—short stories, books, audiobooks, exclusive articles, & more!—as well as new exclusive content weekly! For a full list of paid subscriber benefits, click here.
Once again, thank you all for supporting DOOM FICTION! You’re quite literally making my dreams come true. Much love to all!
Thank you for going on this journey with me!

Last Week / This Week
My new story “Prelude to a Dream” drops on 3.14.24 for paid subscribers only!
Last week, on Storytime!, we read a cautionary tale concerning injustice, deception, and most importantly… karma. Some things really are too good to be true. What? Haven’t had a chance to listen to “Cyber Solaris” yet? No worries! It’ll be available to stream for free for the rest of the weekend. Check it out here.
On this week’s episode, we’ll be reading ‘a true experiment in psychedelia’ with the story of an astronaut who curiously encounters an abandoned church while stranded on the moon. Be sure to check out “The Church of Death & Nothingness” when it drops on Monday! Be sure you’re subscribed so you’re notified the moment it goes live:
