I'm Tearing Myself Apart! (Part Two)
-OR- an attempt at fixing "The Things That Left Their Skin."
Wait! Did you miss ‘part one?’ No worries! Check it out here.
An update on my progress with the
“The Things That Left Their Skin”
re-write:
After tearing apart my shitty 15-year-old story a few weeks back, I took a few hours to re-imagine a new plot.
I’ve learned quite a bit about writing in the time since first penning this story, and I think this detailed outline reflects that. The story now features a more intricate plot (including a nice little twist, extracted from details found in the original version of the story), fully developed 3-dimensional characters, and most importantly, it feels complete. There’s a beginning, middle, and end. I still can’t believe I initially ended the story before I ever got into the real meat and potatoes of the plot. It’s embarrassingly amateur, but that’s exactly what I was back then—an amateur. Now, let’s see if I’ve learned anything in the last decade and a half…
Before getting into it, I feel I have to mention that I often make changes during the actual writing process (I like to give room for my characters to guide me through the plot, which sometimes takes me to unexpected places), so the final story may differ a bit from what you read here.
Anyway, this is the basic plot I’ll be working with going in:
