CHOOSE YOUR OWN MINDFUCK: A Night in Eighth Block Tower (A62)
Bedlam Bible fans! Explore the Eighth Block Tower! Choose your fate! New posts every Tuesday and Friday. September '23 through December '23. Don't succumb to the huummmmmmmmm...
You’ve decided to tell the wired man you believe him…
“Man, with all the shit I’ve seen in the last few hours, I believe you,” you say, and instantly the man smiles. His teeth are in various states of decay. Thankfully the smell of hot electricity masks their odor.
“So, you’ll help me blow it up then?” the man asks, belching another round of hot smoke. He squeezes your arms and leans in close to your face. As he breathes, you finally get a whiff of the rot. You lean as far away from him as he’ll allow.
“Just so we’re on the same page here,” you say, still struggling to wriggle free of his grasp. “You’re talking about the tower, right?”
He sneers. “I’m talking about the tower, the residents, the radiation, the salt, the giant green brain… all of it! I’m turning this place into a fucking crater! There won’t be anything left but charred bricks and glowing bones!”
“Did you say ‘giant green brain?’” you ask, but of course he doesn’t respond to it.
“This is the only way to save us, you know?” he continues. “This is for the greater good. We don’t belong in this world. And the world we do belong in, has no business being connected to here. It’s time we return to our darkness!”
You stop to consider your options. It doesn’t take long, because you have none. If you do anything other than what he wants you to do, you’ll surely die. You’re in too deep. You were in too deep the moment you misread the apartment number on that scrap piece of paper.
So, now that you’ve “decided” to help him blow up the Eighth Block Tower, it has you thinking about how this ridiculous plot may actually come to benefit you in the long run. After all, you’ve committed at least one crime tonight, perhaps even several (you were never too good at all that legal stuff)—blowing up the tower would destroy every trace of evidence that leads back to you. You may not have the shoebox full of cash you set out for, but with this, you can have a fresh start. There’s no chance the cops could ever trace the robbery back to you.
The thought relaxes you and suddenly you’re no longer fighting the wired man off. Ironically, as soon as you stop trying to get away, he lets you loose. However, the indentions each of his dirty fingernails have etched in your arms remain.
He tells you he’s pinpointed two weak points within the foundation of the building, then asks which one you think would do the most damage.
